PML (Zia) succeeds at PP 284

BAHAWALNAGAR: A candidate of Pakistan Muslim League (Zia-ul-Haq group) was declared successful in Wednesday’s bye-polls at PP-284 (Bahawalnagar-VIII), ARY NEWS reported citing unofficial results. Chaudhry Shahid Anjum of former federal minister Ijaz-ul-Haq-led faction of PML received 52605 votes, followed by Kashif Naveed of Pakistan Peoples Party with 26814 votes in all the 130 polling stations’ results, the channel said. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz refrained itself from fielding its candidate in the constituency. The seat was vacated by independent candidate Rauf Khal, as the Election Commission declared him ineligible on finding the charges of rigging against him true. At total of 130 polling stations were set up in the constituency.
